    Media guidelines

    There will be occasions when you need to access photographs for use in your newspaper, magazine or publication, retrieve press releases or download logos for your use. Please take a look at our media contact list to get your questions answered.

    We ask that you follow a few simple guidelines to help us give you the best information in the most timely fashion possible.

    • Please route all your inquiries through the marketing department at Portage Health.
    • For patient condition inquiries, please route your request through the nursing supervisor on duty.
    • To protect the privacy of our patients, a hospital representative will accompany you at all times while you are in our facilities.

    • Federal funding helping expand healthcare in Houghton

      Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center has secured funding from the Federal Bureau of Primary Health Care to improve access to quality healthcare in Houghton. This funding is helping form a unique partnership with Portage Health that will transition Portage Health’s existing primary care practice in Houghton into a Family Health Center that is designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).

      Proposed joint venture will bring Western Upper Peninsula hospital $60 million in capital investments and $40 million to fund a new community foundation

    • Portage Health Dialysis Center home to only CCHT-A in the state

      Stephanie Booth, CCHT-A, recently passed her Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician-Advanced exam. She is the first and only person in Michigan to earn the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission’s (NNCC) certification.

    • Portage Health welcomes Dr. Todd Anderson to University Center

      Portage Health is pleased to announce that Dr. Todd Anderson has joined its team of family medicine providers.  Dr. Anderson is board certified in osteopathic family medicine, and will be providing a full spectrum of family medicine care at the newly renovated and expanded Portage Health University Center clinic.

    • Portage Health Fitness Center adds online booking

      The Portage Health Fitness Center is now offering online booking for group fitness classes and personal training sessions via computer or iOS device.  “We’re always looking for ways to add efficiency and control,” said Angela Luskin, community health coordinator at Portage Health. “We tested this system all summer, and we’ve found that many of our clients love its ease of use.”

    • Portage Health earns “A” Grade from The Leapfrog Group

      Portage Health’s commitment to excellence was recognized with an “A” in the latest Hospital Safety Score grading by The Leapfrog Group. “Receiving the highest grade possible from a credible and neutral source is tremendously rewarding for us,” said Jim Bogan, president/CEO of Portage Health. “Our staff is committed to providing the best possible experience for our patients, and ratings like this validate our efforts.” The “A” ranking was awarded to 37 Michigan hospitals, including two others in the Upper Peninsula.

    • Portage Health in top 18 percent nationwide, according to The Joint Commission

      Portage Health was named one of the “2011 Top Performers on Key Quality Measures” by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. This recognition places Portage Health in the top 18 percent of hospitals nationwide. The Hancock-based hospital is one of only three hospitals in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to receive the honor and one of 13 statewide. Of those hospitals, Portage Health was one of nine in the state and the only in the U.P. to be recognized in multiple categories.
