    Men's Health Tune-up

    UP Health System Portage has put together an all-star lineup of information targeted right to you, the men of the Copper Country.

    Receive the following screenings: lipid panel (total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, blood glucose, triglycerides), bone density and blood pressure. Please fast for 12 hours prior to blood draw.

    The $30 cost includes breakfast, screenings, attendance to sessions, materials, massage and lunch.

    Opening Keynote

    • "Your Prostate Health" - Timothy LaBonte, MD Learn the latest on prostate cancer screenings, the risks and benefits of these screenings and how to discuss these important early detection strategies with your medical provider. 

    Closing Keynote

    • “What You Need to Know about Stroke” – Christian Dinsmore, MD Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in the United States. In our closing keynote speaker, Dr. Dinsmore will discuss what stroke is, what causes stroke, and strategies to reduce your risk.

    Breakout Session 1 - Choose 1 

    • "Strength Training for You" - Lee Naugle, Exercise Specialist Get the latest information on the benefits and techniques of strength training from Certified Personal Trainer, Lee Naugle. Functional exercise, proper form, and injury prevention will be discussed. 
    • "Preventing Hearing Loss" - Melissa Collard, AuD., CCC-A Learn about hearing protection for the busy Yooper, when it's time to see an Audiologist, and what's out there in the world of hearing protection and hearing aids. 
    • "Got Protein?" - Kelsae Eliszewski, RD  High protein diets are the new trend! Are you eating too much protein? Not enough protein? Do you drink protein shakes, eat protein bars, etc.? Come to this presentation to find out the true facts about protein. 
    • "What You Don't Know About Superman" - Inga Johnson, LMSW and Noelle Lufkin, LLMSW These Upper Great Lakes Health Coaches will help us understand men’s mental health, societal expectations, coping, and dealing with emotions. 

    Breakout Session 2 - Choose 1 

    • "Strength Training for You" - Lee Naugle, Exercise Specialist Get the latest information on the benefits and techniques of strength training from Certified Personal Trainer, Lee Naugle. Functional exercise, proper form, and injury prevention will be discussed. 
    • "Pilates for Back Pain" - Susan Rosemurgy, Exercise Specialist Learn the basics of Pilates to improve your overall wellbeing. We will use Pilates techniques for relieving back pain. 
    • "Financial Wellbeing" - Eli Karttunen, CUCE  We'll be addressing common factors that affect your financial health in a low-key environment. After all, finances play a big part in your overall wellbeing. We'll talk about a healthy credit score, debt-to-income ratio, saving for retirement and more. Be prepared to demystify a few myths. 
    • "The Weight Equation" - Joni Erkkila, MPH What affects that number on the scale, and how can you make it change? Discover small changes to improve your overall health with this motivating discussion.
